Sits on a narrow 100‑yard‑wide channel between Manitoulin and Goat Island that links North Channel and Georgian Bay—strong water currents inspired the name “Little Current”. Little Current has a population of 10.50 residents within 2.23 km, and shows a high summer influx due to tourism.
Little Current became an incorporated town in 1890, then amalgamated in 1998 with surrounding areas to form the current municipality Originally an Anishinaabe settlement known as Wewebijiwang or Petit Courant, it developed into a trading and fishing post in the 1800s. The Swing Bridge, built in 1913 for rail and converted to a one‑lane vehicle span in the 90’s. The only road access to Manitoulin Island. Currents under the bridge can exceed 4–6 knots and shift with wind and tide, making navigation exciting. During summer, it operates on the hour: opens ~15 minutes for marine traffic, then closes for cars.
Little Current offers beach access, playground, picnic area, sports courts, and a skateboard park—all walkable from downtown. Shop and eat all downtown.
Haweater Weekend: Held in early August, celebrating people born on Manitoulin Island with fireworks, parade, street vendors, and entertainment
Swing Bridge Viewing: Watching it swing open draws photographers and boating enthusiasts alike.
Marina & Cruises: Hosts pleasure boats, yachts, seaplanes, and cruise ships. Offers marine tours and VHF radio service through “Cruisers’ Net”. (Not included).

McLean’s Mountain Lookout: About 4 km west of town, this lookout offers sweeping views of the North and Wabuno Channels against the La Cloche Mountains—complete with picnic tables and washrooms.
